The brief: an international business leader to serve as a Non-Executive Director for a £1.9bn engineering and design consultancy and construction business
Our client, with which we have partnered on several projects over a number of years, is a £1.9bn globally renowned multi-disciplinary business providing engineering, design, planning, project management and consulting services for all aspects of the built environment.
An employee-owned business, they have a clear strategy and focus on high quality and valuable work, and maintaining a world-class reputation, driven by values and commercial priorities. In 2019 we were engaged to find a Non-Executive Director who would bring cross-sector, highly commercial and international experience from North America, Continental Europe, or East or South Asia. Candidates would be comfortable with an atypical governance model and aligned with the business’s distinctive culture and values. We were also responding to the business’s wish to improve the gender balance at board level.
Of the 41 candidates identified, 93% (38) were female. The appointed candidate had been a VP, Asia Pacific at one of the world’s biggest tech companies, as well as Chair of an investment company.
