Supporting Global Majority Leaders in the Cultural Sector
As part of Clore Leadership’s Inclusive Leadership Delivery for ACE’s Transforming Leadership Programme, the Brilliant Routes Network is a supportive space for Global Majority cultural leaders addressing issues of progression and retention in the cultural sector.
For the past three years Studio Gaylene Gould, a company founded by Clore Fellow Gaylene Gould, has curated a programme to support this group’s professional development. In 2022 they piloted Re-UP! a special programme designed to address issues of burnout supported by Gaylene Gould’s research for Clore Leadership Re-UP! Restorative Care Practice as Leadership Development.
Saxton Bampfylde is delighted to be sponsors for the next Re-UP! which will run between January to May 2024 for past alumni and new participants.
Launch Event: Celebrating the contribution of Trustees from under-represented backgrounds to the arts
In April 2023, Saxton Bampfylde were delighted to host the first of what will be an annual event to celebrate the contribution of board members from under-represented backgrounds to the arts. With a long history of supporting the creative industries with leadership appointments, Saxton Bampfylde are passionately invested in the arts and care deeply about representation at executive, and non-executive level. We believe it’s critical for board tables to have diversity of thought and experience, as know that leads to the most exciting, creative, and transformative organisations.
We wanted to acknowledge the amazing work that this group of Board members do and celebrate their contribution to society. We were also there to listen, and to learn what more, as leadership advisors, we can be doing to support diversity across the sector. Last year 75% of our board appointments were Trustees and Chairs from under-represented backgrounds, but there is still so much more work to do.
Kindly hosted by The House of Koko we couldn’t have asked for a better panel, hosted by Universal Music’s Jonathan Badyal, with Suhair Khan, Founder of Open-Ended Design; Yasmin Khan, Head of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion at Tate; Skinder Hundal MBE, Director of Arts at the British Council and Saxton Bampfylde Consultant, Pamela Leonce. As well as their day jobs, each of the speakers have extensive experience in governance and were generous in sharing their stories.
To continue these conversations, Saxton Bampfylde will be hosting a series of future events throughout the year and another drinks reception in spring 2024. If you would like to be invited to these events or know someone who might benefit from taking part, please email us at contact@saxbam.com.
