Chief Operating Officer

Job Reference FBPYA
Closing Date Friday 20 Sep 2024

Wellington College is one the UK’s – and indeed the world’s – great coeducational boarding and day schools. Set within 400 acres of stunning parkland in leafy Berkshire and less than an hour’s drive from London and Heathrow, the school was founded in

1853 as the living memorial to the Duke of Wellington, described by Queen Victoria as “the greatest man this country has ever produced”.

Reporting to the Master of Wellington College, the Chief Operating Officer and Group Bursar is the second most senior role within the organisation, with primary responsibility for the strategic financial management of the Wellington College Charity.  The role also includes direct accountability for the grounds, facilities and operational management of a 400-acre site, in addition to strategic oversight and management of all revenue associated with commercial activities and the professional functions such as IT, Finance, Legal and HR.

The overall role of the COO is to provide effective management in order that the Master can deliver the very best possible education to the pupils, whilst assisting the Governors in the delivery of their fiduciary and legal responsibilities as Trustees of the charity. The successful candidate will bring senior financial and leadership experience gained within the commercial/financial/business world. They should have an interest in, but not necessarily experience of, the UK educational world. With excellent communications and relationship management skills, they will have a proven track record of delivery and a demonstrable commitment to the core values of the College: kindness, integrity, respect, responsibility and courage.
