Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor
CEO
Remuneration: Competitive
Location: London, UK with international travel
55% of the world’s population live in urban areas, yet in the last 20 years, the number of people living in cities without clean water readily available at home has increased by more than 50% to 615 million. Climate change has brought increased flooding, damaging city infrastructure including sewers, contaminating water sources, while droughts are exacerbating water scarcity. COVID-19 has also brought home to us all, wherever we are, the importance of clean water and decent hygiene facilities as the first line of defence in public health. Too many city dwellers across the Global South are experiencing the terrible consequences of this lack of safe water, sanitation & hygiene facilities on their health, wellbeing and prosperity.
Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) has developed a reputation as a world leader in research and practical assistance in the market-led delivery of access to urban water, sanitation and hygiene. We are unique in working across the public sector, commercial sector and civil society to catalyse systemic change. With operations across seven countries, our work has benefited more than 30 million people as well as mobilising over $650m in investment for more than 45 cities and towns. Our work is critical.
After the successful tenure of our outgoing Chief Executive, we are looking for our next strategic leader. Candidates will bring significant experience as a senior strategic leader who has successfully led institutional growth and change in a non-profit, foundation or business of similar scale. They will bring commercial acumen and demonstrable or relatable experience in building philanthropic support and sustainably growing revenue for increased impact as well as the operational, financial and people management skills to lead a diverse, global, multidisciplinary mission driven organisation. With outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, s/he will bring the passion for our work that will influence and engage our many partners towards even greater impact.
