Dean for the School of Science, Engineering and Environment

Job Reference MUSC
Closing Date Sunday 01 Oct 2023 (Now Expired)

The role of Dean for the School of Science, Engineering and Environment is a pivotal role within our University and an opportunity to build upon the success of an innovative School with an international research profile.  Building on the School’s existing strengths, the new Dean will realise the School’s significant potential for growth and have the ability to influence a culture of continuous improvement with student experience and outcomes at the heart of it. You will drive forward our Industry Collaboration strategy, building new partnerships and opportunities, with a keen focus on real world academic practice, research, and innovation. Through collaboration, you will bring UK, regional and industry related agendas to the fore, ensuring our response is agile and outward facing. This is an exciting opportunity to perform a critical transformational role within this high-profile School.

The ideal candidate will be an exceptional leader with a successful track record in change leadership and outstanding academic outputs. You will have a clear vision for the School which focuses on excellence in teaching, research, and enterprise. As part of the Vice-Chancellor’s executive team, you will enjoy building strong and credible relationships with other leaders both internally and externally, with the ability to influence and engage others and to drive both the success of the School and the wider University of Salford. Importantly, you will understand people and what great leadership looks like, and the value of demonstrating leadership behaviours by role modelling them. We are a global community, with colleagues and students from all around the world. We value diversity and recognise it makes us stronger and you will share these values and act as an ambassador for the School, driving positive change and growth.

The School is one of the largest within the University, formed from the unification of three smaller Schools (Built Environment, Computer Science and Engineering and Environment and Life Sciences) in 2018 to provide opportunities for interdisciplinary working and learning for both colleagues and students across the spectrum of sciences, engineering and environment.  It has developed its outward facing identity through the partnerships it has built, and by embracing real-life learning opportunities for students. This has ensured that its programmes provide our students with the best possible learning and experience for life beyond university.
