With heritage in Britain’s pioneering aeronautical industry, the University of Hertfordshire has been an innovative force in education since the early 1950s. Today, we host a thriving community of more than 30,000 students, studying 550-degree options at our vibrant, inclusive, campus-based institution. Our strong relationships with industry and award-winning careers services complement high-quality teaching to ensure Herts’ students gain the knowledge and skills they need to match their ambition and succeed. Our academics are experts in their fields, powered by curiosity and driven to deliver research that’s making a meaningful social and environmental impact in the UK and beyond our shores.

The School of Creative Arts is an award-winning and cutting-edge School with a strong reputation for the quality of our graduates and significant international activity. With around 2,500 students, 140 permanent staff and 120 visiting experts, it benefits from high level technical facilities, a good research base and a thriving academic community focused around art, design, animation, film, tv and music. Based in the College Lane campus, the School has a vibrant atmosphere, including studios, digital suites and the University of Hertfordshire Galleries.

We are now looking to appoint a new Dean to lead the School of Creative Arts. Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Dean will be responsible for driving the School’s strategy, in alignment with University priorities, as well as managing all aspects of the School’s operation and administration. In addition to responsibility for the provision of education and development of research, the Dean will also be expected to take a lead in engaging with partners across the creative industries and relevant employer organisations and professional bodies, maximising opportunities for our students and raising the School’s profile externally.

Strong candidates for this role will bring a proven track record of strategic delivery and operational management, either within higher education or a relevant creative environment. We are looking for an individual passionate about innovative creative arts education, who can work collaboratively with colleagues to build upon the School’s successes to further enhance its offer and reputation.
