University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust
Medical Director

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is the newly merged Trust comprising University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and Weston Area Health NHS Trust. Together, we are a combined workforce of over 13,000, delivering 100 different clinical services across 10 different sites. UHBW is also the largest teaching trust in the region and a major specialist centre, providing tertiary services for over 7 million across the region. Working with our academic partners, we are a leader in vital areas of clinical research to deliver cutting-edge improvements in diagnosis and treatments.
This is a pivotal time to join UHBW as our new Medical Director. Having merged together we have an exciting opportunity to create something better, especially as we continue to respond to the pressures that COVID-19 has put on our staff and on the wider system. We are deepening relationships with our local partners both through the ICS, Healthier Together, and our Academic Health Science Centre, Bristol Health Partners. As a consequence of our deeper working with local partners, we will be working closely with North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) as they also seek to appoint a Medical Director to join their Trust. Recognising the close relationship that the two Medical Directors will have, UHBW will be working cooperatively with NBT to ensure the appointments build mutual success.
As our Medical Director, you will be a critical member of the Trust Board, setting the future direction for clinical service, providing professional leadership, and leading clinical participation in system-wide service redesign. Whilst ensuring we continue to deliver excellent patient care, you will also encourage the development of NHS research activity, building relationships with academic partners and others across the system. We will be looking for someone with experience as a medical leader at the most senior levels, with experience working with academic partners and in a teaching hospital environment. You will need experience of developing clinical teams built on strong professional credibility, and exceptional communication skills in managing relationships inside and outside of the Trust.
UHBW is committed to inclusion in everything we do, as set out in our Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Strategy. We welcome applications for our next Medical Director from individuals from all backgrounds and expect candidates to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion of staff and services.
