The High School of Glasgow was originally founded in 1124 as the Choir School of Glasgow Cathedral, and by this account is the oldest school in Scotland. From 1976, The High School of Glasgow has operated as an Independent School with roughly 1,000 pupils aged 3 to 18 and 200 staff. The High School of Glasgow is now seeking a Chief Operating Officer to join the School in a time of renewed energy following the challenges of the pandemic. There is the opportunity to implement our strategic vision whilst holding responsibility for both the financial and operational aspects of the school. The appointed candidate will work closely with the Rector, supporting him on strategic development, premises and resource management as well as security, health and safety, compliance & risk management.

The appointed candidate will bring experience at Board level or Senior Management level, with strong commercial and financial acumen and a track record of developing business opportunities. Ideally the appointed candidate will have a good knowledge of charity law and regulations.  An accounting qualification and/or financial experience is desirable, as well as a solid understanding of the issues currently facing the independent education sector and charity sector. The appointed candidate does not necessarily have to have experience in the schools sector, but an empathy with the sector is important.
