The Felix Project

Trustee

Job Reference UAQALB
Closing Date Friday 10 Sep 2021 (Now Expired)

At The Felix Project, we are striving for a London where nobody goes hungry, and good food is never wasted.

No one should have to miss a meal, but right now, millions of people in the UK regularly experience hunger. Yet tonnes of surplus food perfectly good for human consumption is thrown away every day, contributing huge levels of greenhouse gases in the process. At The Felix Project, we rescue food that cannot be sold and would otherwise go to waste. This food is in-date, safe and nutritious. We collect or receive deliveries from supermarkets, wholesalers, farms, restaurants, delicatessens and many other businesses and check, sort and then deliver this food. We work with charities that cook meals and prepare food parcels for vulnerable people, as well as primary schools, holiday clubs and play schemes for children and their families.

We are a young and dynamic charity who have grown considerably in the last 18 months, and have the ambition to keep transforming. We are opening our fourth depot, as well as Felix’s Kitchen, a professional kitchen creating as many as 30,000 fresh, nutritious meals weekly and creating our first employability scheme. After just five years, we have become the UK’s largest end-to-end food redistribution charity.

We’re looking for an active and engaged Trustee/s to join our Board. Someone who understands London and London’s communities, and can develop our connection to the communities we support. This will be someone who embraces the circular economy, and is passionate about our vision and growth. We are particularly interested in speaking to charitable leaders, leaders in the education sector, and individuals working with local authorities, housing and local government.

The Felix Project recognises the enormous benefits and social justice imperatives of a diverse board, more reflective of the communities we serve. We therefore actively and warmly encourage applications from a broad and deep range of backgrounds and experiences, faiths (or none) and identities. We are looking for people from underrepresented backgrounds, who bring diversity of thought, and who are able to bring new and challenging perspectives to the charity.
