The Bradfield Group

Warden of Council

Job Reference GABRD
Closing Date Thursday 24 Feb 2022 (Now Expired)

Founded in 1850 and set in picturesque Berkshire countryside, Bradfield College is one of the UK’s leading coeducational independent schools. Comprising of roughly 810 pupils ages 13 – 18, Bradfield College is a thriving boarding and day community dedicated to providing all pupils with an Education for Life. Bradfield aims to equip the young people in its care to flourish personally and professionally and to make a positive contribution to society. The College strives for pupils to enjoy school and fulfil their potential within and beyond the classroom, developing their confidence, open-mindedness, resilience, inquiry, communication, and innovation. Members of the College community work together to display integrity, empathy, and enthusiasm, and all decisions are made in the best interests of the pupils.

Following a merger with St Andrew’s, Pangbourne, a local prep school, Bradfield College now seeks an outstanding leader to chair its newly combined Board of Governors as Warden of Council for the Bradfield Group. The Warden shall lead Council in its responsibilities to ensure the long-term success of the schools and maintain the highest possible standards of governance. They will work closely and collaboratively with fellow governors and the Heads to maintain the schools’ current success and plan for the future. With the recent launch of its Strategy 2025, Bradfield now turns its attention to Strategy 2030, and this is an exciting opportunity for a passionate non-executive leader to help shape the direction of these vibrant schools.

The successful candidate will display a commitment to education, and be able to articulate and advocate for the value of coeducation and of boarding. They will have a passion for the schools and understand their educational and pastoral philosophy and ethos. The next Warden will have demonstrable experience developing and setting strategy with good commercial acumen. Experience of chairing boards or committees is essential, and prior experience as a school Governor is highly desirable.
