After many years of collaboration, the Boards of Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust formed a hospital group in 2022: St George’s and Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group (GESH). Becoming a Group has created one of the largest entities in the whole of the NHS, making us more resilient to the challenges modern healthcare may bring in the future, as well as offering our local communities great access to a wider range of NHS services. With over 17,000 staff across their four acute hospital sites and community services, we have a combined annual turnover of around £1.7 billion and serve a population of approximately 3.5 million people across South West London, Surrey, Sussex and beyond.

Having established a single Executive and Group Board, we are now looking for an exceptional Group Chief People Officer (GCPO) to join at this pivotal moment for our organisation. Responsible for the leadership and direction of HR functions across GESH. Responsible for leading and directing the development and implementation of a new people, culture, and organisational development strategy across the entire Group, you will ensure that it delivers outstanding services to clinical and non-clinical staff. You will also lead on the development and implementation of the Group’s culture, equity and inclusion programme, including leading a strategic approach to equality and diversity. The GCPO will lead on organisational development plans that builds Group-wide capacity and capability, as well as developing and embedding our organisational culture.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience as a Chief People Officer, or in an equivalent Board-level HR leadership role, in a large, complex, and diverse organisation. As a senior HR leader, you will bring experience of leading and successfully delivering HR transformation and improvement programmes in support of the overall people strategy. You will be collaborative and used to working with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders, and bring the ability to work fluently across a range of issues. You will provide inspirational leadership to transform and integrate our HR services on a Group-wide basis, and lead the team in the design of high impact workforce solutions and programmes.
