Closing Date Thursday 27 Apr 2023 (Now Expired)

Salary: £100,942 – £130,361

Location: Flexible

The RSPB exists to advance the conservation of birds, other wildlife, and the natural world, by protecting and restoring habitats, saving species, sharing knowledge and connecting people to nature.

There couldn’t be a more exciting and challenging time to be joining us. We’re proud of everything we’ve achieved in the past decade, but we know that the years between now and 2030 will be critical in addressing the nature and climate emergency. The RSPB has a vital role to play in this work, both through our conservation work in the UK and around the world, and through inspiring and enabling many more, and more diverse people, to act to protect and restore birds and nature.

RSPB 2030 sets out our strategic ambition for this decade.  With some 160,000 hectares of land under our management across the four countries of the UK, our work around the globe, our leading role in Birdlife International, more than 2,000 staff and 12,000 volunteers and an annual income of over £150m, we stand ready to make our fullest contribution to resolving the nature and climate emergency.

This role of COO is key to turning our strategic intent into reality.  Reporting to the CEO and working alongside our Executive Director team, it has responsibility for our entire operation across the UK countries and leading the delivery of the transformational change agenda already in motion.  We need an exceptional leader with a strong track record of delivery and operational transformation in large, complex multi-site organisations.

If you bring the skills we are looking for and want to make a lasting, positive impact on the natural world now and for future generations, then we would love to hear from you.

We are committed to developing an inclusive and diverse RSPB, in which everyone feels supported, valued, and able to be their full selves. To achieve our vision of creating a world richer in nature, we need more people, and more diverse people, on nature’s side. We welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds, but also recognise that people of colour and disabled people are currently underrepresented across the environment, climate, sustainability, and conservation sector.  If you identify as a person of colour and/or disabled, we are particularly interested in receiving your application.  Contact us to discuss any support or reasonable adjustments you may need to help you complete your application.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to the RSPB on this appointment. For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please visit our candidate microsite here. Alternatively, telephone +44 (0)20 7227 0880 (during office hours). Applications should be received by noon on Thursday 27th April.

We’re proud of everything we’ve achieved in the past decade, but we know that the years between now and 2030 will be critical in addressing the nature and climate emergency.
