Ripon College Cuddesdon

Principal

Job Reference UAADC
Closing Date Friday 02 May 2025

Cuddesdon was established by Bishop Samuel Wilberforce, whose vision was for a college independent of any specific Church faction, and with a focus on the discipline of daily prayer and spiritual formation. With a residential community at its core, over 160 years later, Ripon College Cuddesdon offers a broad range of full and part time pathways and programmes, to meet the needs of people with different circumstances, stages of life, and academic experience, as they train for ordained and lay ministry and leadership.

Based in an inspirational rural setting, seven miles from Oxford, the college provides for students, staff and visitors from across the theological spectrum, from the UK and beyond, remaining firmly rooted in the broad mainstream of the Church of England. With additional teaching hubs in Gloucester and Hereford, the Governing body are eager for the college to continue to respond in a changing environment for the Church, and to the needs of those training for ministry and Christian leadership.

The Governing body now seeks our next Principal, following the announcement of Bishop Humphrey Southern’s retirement at the end of the year. We seek a bold and courageous leader, who can help us shape our future response to this rapidly changing environment.  With our beautiful campus, Ripon College Cuddesdon, has long been a place of hospitality and refreshment. With a contemporary, architecturally renowned chapel, and having introduced varied training pathways, there is much to build on.

We seek a committed Christian leader, who is likely ordained, someone with imagination, who exemplifies authentic ministry, pastoral care and spirituality, brings leadership experience, management expertise and good communication skills, and a capacity to develop an entrepreneurial vision for this special place of learning.
