Professional Standards Authority

Devolved Administration Board Members (Scotland Board Member)

Job Reference QBOHB
Closing Date Thursday 26 Sep 2024

The Professional Standards Authority’s (PSA) role is to promote the health, safety and well-being of patients, service users and the public by raising standards of regulation and registration of people working in health and care. We are a small, independent body, accountable to the UK Parliament.  We are the oversight body for 10 statutory regulators of professionals working in the Health and Social Care sector and we manage an Accredited Registers programme for roles that are not statutorily regulated.

The PSA is now looking to appoint two Devolved Administration Board Members, one from Northern Ireland and one from Scotland. We are looking for individuals with highly developed influencing and leadership skills to work in the interests of all members of our diverse society – we do not have preconceptions about where our new Board Member will come from, apart from living and/or working in either Scotland or Northern Ireland, so please don’t rule yourself out before reading further.

This is a unique and influential role in the high-profile field of health and social care and our new Board Members will join the PSA at an interesting time with the implementation of reform. You will be part of a team working with the governments and administrations across the United Kingdom, with the statutory regulators and non-statutory registers we oversee, with representatives of highly diverse patient and professional groups, and with other stakeholders.

It is essential that candidates live and/or work in the location pertinent to the appointment: Scotland or Northern Ireland. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the issues relating to regulation, health and health regulation in the relevant location. They must have a demonstrable commitment to public service and the protection of patients and the public. Given our role overseeing the 10 statutory regulators and Accredited Registers, applicants are not eligible for this role if they have ever been registered with any of the 10 statutory registers or the Accredited Registers.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to the PSA on this appointment.
