Power to Change

Chair

Job Reference ULTT
Closing Date Wednesday 14 Sep 2022 (Now Expired)

Power to Change supports communities to create businesses that improve the lives and livelihoods of local people. As our Chair comes to the end of his term, we are looking to appoint a credible, committed, and experienced new board leader, and passionate advocate and representative of the communities that we seek to strengthen. They will work closely with our new CEO to provide outstanding leadership to Power to Change as it enters its next strategic phase.

Our mission is to strengthen community businesses to tackle some of society’s biggest challenges at a local level, including the three biggest challenges of our time: climate change, digital transformation, and social inequalities.

Since 2015, Power to Change has been at the forefront of supporting community-led action. We have invested over £100m in supporting over 1200 organisations across England. Alongside this, we have collected evidence on the impact of community businesses, influenced government and others in positions of power to recognise the value of community-led action and built sector partnerships and alliances to amplify our impact.

Power to Change was established with a seven year remit, with an endowment from The National Lottery Community Fund. Responding to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, we realised that community businesses needed us now more than ever. Based on our track record of delivering impact, we received a further £20m from NLCF which enabled us to set out our next five-year strategy to continue supporting the sector.

This is an exciting time for the organisation – we are looking for an ambitious, engaged Chair, who relishes the opportunities that periods of change bring. You will be diplomatic with excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and an ability to engage meaningfully, building trust across all levels and community stakeholders, internally and externally, working with our new Board members, new CEO and relatively recently formed SLT. Experience of navigating central, regional and/or local government (although without strong political affiliations or being prominently party political) would also be welcomed.

Power to Change recognises the enormous benefits of diverse leadership. We are seeking a new Chair who is a champion of equity and inclusivity and brings commitment to furthering this in the organisation. We actively and warmly encourage applications from a wide range of backgrounds.
