Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery is one of London’s most unique and vibrant cultural destinations. Located in the heart of Ealing, the Manor was the country home of Sir John Soane, one of Britain’s most influential architects, and offers visitors the rare opportunity to experience both his extraordinary architectural legacy and a dynamic programme of contemporary art. Since reopening in 2019 following a substantial restoration project to take the Manor back to Soane’s original designs, Pitzhanger has become a forum for creativity, debate and participation, building a deeper connection between art, heritage, and community. The gallery has already made significant strides, hosting high-profile exhibitions with the likes of Grayson Perry, Anish Kapoor, and Julian Opie, in addition to its increasing success with a blend of commercial operations and outreach programmes, increasing its visitor numbers, and establishing a strong presence in the local and national cultural scene.

As Pitzhanger’s Founding Director, Clare Gough, steps away after almost a decade of excellent leadership, the Board are looking to appoint a new Director who will bring visionary leadership to build on these foundations, ensuring the growth, sustainability and impact of the Gallery. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, and responsible for the overall management, development, and financial sustainability of Pitzhanger, the Director will champion audience engagement, foster crucial relationships with stakeholders, funders and partners, drive commercial innovation, inspire creative programming, and ensure operational excellence.

The successful candidate will have proven leadership experience within the cultural or adjacent sectors, with a strong track record in strategic planning, financial management, and operational delivery. You will have successfully developed cultural programmes and partnerships that engage diverse audiences, and have experience of income generation, fundraising, and ensuring financial sustainability. You will be a collaborative leader staff development and ensuring an inclusive culture, in addition to being a strategic thinker who can turn ideas into action. Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills are key, as is the ability to inspire and influence stakeholders. A strong commercial acumen, entrepreneurial mindset, and the ability to lead and develop a high-performing team are key.
