Nottingham Contemporary

Director

Job Reference PBEXA
Closing Date Thursday 06 Oct 2022 (Now Expired)

MA Curating Contemporary Art Graduate Projects, 2020

Salary: £75,000 – £80,000

We’ve been described as “the most inspiring gallery in the UK” (Guardian). We connect people across our city and around the world, nurturing and shaping the future of art and ideas.

Nottingham Contemporary is one of the leading centres of contemporary art in Europe, and among the largest spaces of its kind in the UK. With a reputation for ambitious exhibitions and vibrant events, we have offered inspiration, challenge and surprise to over two million people since opening in 2009.

After over six years of exceptional leadership, Sam Thorne is stepping down as Director, and we are seeking a successor who will take Nottingham Contemporary into its next chapter. Connecting local priorities with international conversations, education and collaboration lies at the heart of our work, and the next Director will continue to advance our programme and develop Nottingham Contemporary’s reputation for artistic excellence.

We are looking for a courageous and ambitious leader who brings a proven track record of thought leadership within the contemporary and visual arts landscape. The Director will be an outstanding ambassador for the organisation at a local, national and international level, and will be a champion of the Gallery as a placemaker in the local Nottingham community.

Nottingham Contemporary is passionate about becoming more welcoming, accessible and relevant. We actively encourage people from different backgrounds, with wider knowledge and perspectives to join us and influence and develop our working practice. We would especially like to hear from candidates from ethnically and socially diverse cultural backgrounds; those with lived experience of racism, and/or people who are disabled, Deaf/deaf, or neurodivergent, as well those whose experiences cut across these identities.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to Nottingham Contemporary on this appointment. For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please visit www.saxbam.com/appointments using reference PBEXA. Alternatively, telephone +44 (0)20 7227 0880 (during office hours). Applications should be received by noon on Thursday 6th October.
