Norwich Theatre
Chair
Norwich Theatre is one of the leading arts organisations in the UK and the largest in the East of England, encompassing the historic Theatre Royal, the creative hub Stage Two, and the intimate mid-scale Playhouse. We present, produce and co-create a vibrant programme of live performance and creative engagement activities to entertain, enrich and inspire audiences of all ages and backgrounds, and we work with national and international partners, from the Royal Shakespeare Company to Dance Consortium; National Theatre to Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures to ensure we bring the very best theatre to our region. We are an independent not-for-profit charity with no regular public funding, and rely on a share of ticket sales, one-off grants, fundraising/membership schemes and other commercial activities to deliver the work we do both on stage and in communities.
The Board now seeks candidates for the role of Chair, amidst a very exciting time at Norwich Theatre. In a strong financial position, and entering an important phase of growth and development through its new Creative Experiences strategy, Norwich Theatre is looking to a bright future of exciting programming centred on producing more of our own work and continuing our engagement with local communities to drive social change. There are huge opportunities to capitalise on, and our new Chair will help guide the organisation on the next step of its journey.
Candidates will have a passion for the arts and the wide-ranging benefits the sector can generate and bring a strong track record of strategic leadership and good business acumen. They will ideally bring an awareness of current regional and national opportunities and challenges in the arts, as well as an altruistic approach, independence of thought, excellent relationship-building and communication skills, and the energy and drive to support the development of the organisation’s strategic vision for the future. They will be excited to engage with local, regional and national stakeholders and partners and have a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in alignment with the mission and values of Norwich Theatre.
