National Trust for Scotland

Finance Director

Job Reference DNSP
Closing Date Friday 20 Jan 2023 (Now Expired)

Established as an independent charity in 1931, the National Trust for Scotland’s core purpose is the promotion of the conservation, access, and enjoyment of Scotland’s places of historic interest and natural beauty. The Trust is Scotland’s largest independent conservation charity, owning and with the responsibility to care for a large portion Scotland’s most significant heritage, from coastlines to castles, art to architecture, gardens to wilderness.

A new strategy has been put in place to direct and guide the charity’s work over the next ten years as it looks forward to its centenary in 2031. Within the strategy, clear priorities have been set, based on three core objectives of conservation, engagement, and sustainability. Included among the objectives are the intentions to be a growing diverse organisation, with a workforce representative of modern Scotland; and to invest in our own people, the volunteers and staff who care for our properties.

An opportunity has arisen to join the National Trust for Scotland as Finance Director, reporting directly into the Chief Operating Officer.  Critical to the success of the Trust and the delivery of the new strategy, the post holder will bring a proven track record of financial leadership, governance and support as a senior finance business partner. As Finance Director, you will be responsible for leading the full finance function and will deputise for the COO when required at ExCo, Board, Audit & Risk & Investment Committee meetings, providing tactical and strategic leadership.

The Trust is looking for someone who will play a key role in delivering change, contributing to the Trust’s future direction, and creating a streamlined and efficient finance function. Critical to the success of this role is the ability to implement sound operational systems and processes across the Trust and also the ability to lead, motivate and inspire people.
