Marie Curie

Chair

Job Reference CAJAED
Closing Date Monday 26 Aug 2024

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life charity. We’re there for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, Marie Curie is with you to the end. We provide expert hospice care in the comfort of people’s homes and in our hospices, and support over the phone and via the internet. And we push for a better end of life for all by campaigning and sharing research to change the end of life care system.

Our vision is for a society where everyone has the care they need at the end of their lives. Everyone will be affected by dying, death and bereavement. We believe that everyone deserves the best possible care and support, reflecting what’s most important to them.

Ahead of our current Chair stepping down after seven years of outstanding service, we are looking for a new Chair to play a vital role in driving our ambitious vision for change agenda. The Chair will provide leadership to the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive, and ensure the Board provides an appropriate level of oversight, challenge, and support to enable us to deliver on our strategic objectives. The new Chair will support making our vision a reality by acting as an effective ambassador for our work and mission; growing our impact, income and profile. This person will evidence success and confidence as a senior leader in a complex organisation, whether in the commercial, charity or public sector. This experience will likely include direct involvement in the development of strategy, policies, planning and operational effectiveness. They will have the ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders across Government, health and social care, and the hospice and charity sector and help steer Marie Curie through a period of likely accelerated change in health and social care in the UK with the demand for end of life care increasing

Reflecting the diverse communities that we are proud to serve, Marie Curie is very much committed to widening the diversity of its leadership and board. We actively and warmly encourage applications from a broad and deep range of backgrounds and lived experiences.
