Manx National Heritage

Head of Operations

Job Reference JANAEC
Closing Date Friday 15 Dec 2023

Manx National Heritage (MNH) is the trading name of the Manx Museum and National Trust, a charity registered in the Isle of Man that looks after some of the Island’s most special places, spaces, archives and museum collections. MNH exists to take a lead in protecting, conserving, making accessible and celebrating the Islands’ natural and cultural heritage for current and future generations whilst contributing to the Island’s prosperity and quality of life.

The Isle of Man has so much to offer its residents; from exceptional employment opportunities, a vibrant cultural scene, to stunning landscapes, and MNH is custodian of some of the world’s most important heritage sites, including amongst others the Great Laxey Wheel, the largest working waterwheel in the world, and Castle Rushen, one of the best-preserved medieval castles in the world.

Against the backdrop of Manx Museum’s 100th anniversary in 2022/23 and the development of an exciting new three-year strategy, the organisation is seeking a Head of Operations to lead and develop current visitor services and commercial enterprise activities across the organisation and to further expand new areas of business to maximise revenue generating potential. This is an exciting and rewarding new position, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to leave their own personal legacy for the heritage of the Manx nation. The role of Head of Operations will be challenging, diverse and particularly rewarding and your experience, commitment and talent will be directly contributing to the protection of the heritage of the Isle of Man for future generations to enjoy.

The ideal candidate will bring outstanding financial and commercial acumen with an innovative ‘can-do’ mind-set to optimise commercial activities across all visited sites and through on-line trading activities. Proven successful experience working in a customer-focussed context will be key, as is a broad knowledge across retail, hospitality and leisure services. Practical experience of EPoS and CRM systems will also be very helpful and experience of working in the heritage sector would be a distinct advantage.

With relevant experience of strategic and operational planning to achieve success, you will have a track record of leading transformational change within a relevant context.
