LUC

Managing Director

Job Reference HBPPA
Closing Date Friday 23 Aug 2024

LUC was created to tackle the toughest issues of sustainable development that balance the needs of communities and the environment. A multi-disciplinary consultancy, established in 1966 by three founders, we bring together the disciplines of nature conservation, landscape architecture and planning. Today, the result is a thriving business and one of the leading advisors in its field.

With clients that range from those that influence public policy, leaders in the renewables energy sector and national heritage and conservation organisations, our highly skilled team of creative and technical experts share in a common belief: that for each client we will strive to deliver a solution that is of benefit for the environment. We believe that challenging convention is the key to solving today’s biggest problems and we bring together a team of experts who can support our clients in doing this. Our decision making is driven by our mission: to deliver better futures for nature, people and places.

Having become an Employee-Ownership Trust in 2019, LUC is owned by all its employees. This allows the business an independence to do things its own way, while not ignoring the commercial requirements of a successful and rewarding business. Our strategy is led and implemented by the Company Board, which is held to account by the Trustees on behalf of all employees.

We are looking to appoint a new Managing Director who will lead the business, with a hands-on management role in developing its strategy and our people. As a member of the Company Board they will provide strategic leadership and commercial development policies and ensure these are delivered against set objectives. Alongside the corporate responsibilities, the Managing Director will also be a compelling advocate for LUC externally, articulating our distinctiveness and advancing our ability to impact and influence.

We wish to attract a strategic and visionary leader, who is values-led and passionate about creating effective professional services businesses. They will care deeply about the sustainability agenda and see the potential for LUC to leverage its expertise in support of this. With a wide and relevant network, likely to be from one of our fields of expertise, they will bring a track record of setting and developing commercial and strategic priorities and atdelivering the associated change needed. They will do this with an empathetic approach, leading through empowerment; comfortably enabling others to deliver effectively. Experience of working in organisations of similar scale and complexity and the ability to work successfully with similarly highly respect staff populations is important.

We want to leave this world in a better place. Delivering a legacy that we’re proud of is challenging, but LUC’s impact is at the heart of how we run the company.
