The London Academy of Excellence Tottenham is an academically selective free school for pupils ages 16-19, which opened as part of the redevelopment of White Hart Lane in September 2017. LAE Tottenham is sponsored by Highgate School and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Alongside Highgate’s role as principal education sponsor, LAE Tottenham also benefits from close partnerships with eight other leading independent schools from London and the South-East who provide expertise in supporting gifted and academically motivated students in Sixth Form. LAE Tottenham is passionate about successful educational outcomes, and over two thirds of its graduates go on to study at Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities every year.

LAE Tottenham now seeks an outstanding Non-Executive Director to chair its Board of Governors. This is an exciting time to join the Governing Body at LAE Tottenham. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the Headteacher to set the Academy’s strategic direction and ensure its continued innovation and success. The Governors play a vital role in supporting and challenging the LAE Tottenham executive to ensure that the school is fulfilling its vision, not only for its pupils but also for the wider community. A rich and diverse range of skills, knowledge and interests are represented on the Board of Governors, and this makes it a very effective “critical friend” to the school and the leadership team.

Candidates should have a real interest in education and be prepared to volunteer their time and use their skills to ensure the continued success of the school. The Chair must show interest in creating a cohesive school community and be able to communicate successfully with LAE Tottenham’s many stakeholders. They should also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to engage, enthuse and inspire others as well as awareness of the political and economic pressures currently facing the education sector.
