King's College School Wimbledon
Bursar (Director of Finance and Operations)
King’s College School, Wimbledon, is one of the most successful schools in the world. It provides an inspirational and forward-thinking education to more than 1600 pupils (1500 boys aged 7-18 and around 100 girls aged 16-18), on an impressive campus. While exam results are exceptional, King’s is equally proud of its excellent pastoral care and an ethos strongly rooted in kindness, respect for and service to others.
The governors of the Corporation of King’s now seek to appoint an outstanding Bursar to support its continuing development. The role of Bursar, or Director of Finance and Operations, is one of the most important positions in the Corporation, which comprises King’s College Senior School and Junior School, the pre-prep school Wimbledon Common Prep School and the trading subsidiaries – KCSW International (overseas schools) and KCS Enterprises (sports club and premises letting). The Corporation has also recently embarked on a new digital venture, KCS Online.
Reporting directly to the Head, the Bursar has full financial responsibility for the Corporation, as well as responsibility for a broad range of aspects of the Schools’ operational management, including finance, estates, sustainability, compliance, HR, trading subsidiaries, catering, resources, transport, and health and safety. They line manage key support staff, including the Deputy Bursar, Financial Controller, Legal and Compliance Officer, Managing Director of KCS Enterprises and the HR Director, with overall responsibility for every member of the support staff team at the School.
The successful candidate will have strong financial acumen, proven managerial capabilities, excellent communication skills, deep empathy with the values and ethos of the Schools, and the flexibility to adapt to a fast-changing environment. Although financial qualifications are not a prerequisite, the ideal candidate will be highly financially literate, familiar with business priorities in organisations of relevant complexity, a strategic thinker as well as a pragmatic and effective leader.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
King’s College School is fully committed to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusivity in its recruitment of teaching and support staff.
