A pioneering developer of retirement communities, ExtraCare Charitable Trust is now both market-leading in its provision of vibrant, supporting, villages for people in their later years and a charity underpinned by a strong ethos and values. Currently operating 13 retirement villages and 5 smaller housing schemes mainly across the Midlands and the South, this £94m turnover organisation, which employs c 1,500 staff and works with more than 2,000 volunteers, has a distinctive mixed tenure model for the communities it establishes, creating developments which encourage and support healthy, independent living. ExtraCare has ambitious plans for the future, with three additional villages at various stages of development, whilst also focusing on research and innovation enabling it’s residents to enjoy better lives and better physical and mental health.
As part of plans to develop its Board, ExtraCare is seeking to appoint at least three additional Trustees to its non-executive leadership group. The new Trustees will help guide the strategic development of ExtraCare by providing inspirational and insightful leadership as members of an enthusiastic and committed Board. They will also help to build the organisation’s profile and influence, through their own connections and breadth of experience. These Trustees will bring expertise and credentials of particular relevance to the Board and its Committees focused on development, operations, and fundraising, research & advocacy.
This is a distinctive opportunity to join the Board of an innovative and forward thinking charity at a time of great opportunity and potential. Candidates will have outstanding strategic skills, a track record of board level leadership experience, and will bring an understanding of property development/major projects, experience developing services and overseeing operations, or experience leading innovation and growing organisations. They will also bring broad experience of working in a variety of sectors or roles.
ExtraCare is looking for new Trustees who can bring a range of skills, and an enthusiasm for building the organisation’s external connections and relationships. All appointees will bring the confidence, credibility and sensitivity to engage with a wide range of audiences inside and outside the organisation, and be passionate about ExtraCare’s distinctive ethos, offer and sustainable communities. The time commitment is for between 10-15 days pa, on a pro bono basis.
