English Heritage
Trustees
English Heritage cares for over 400 historic buildings, monuments and sites – from world-famous prehistoric sites to grand medieval castles, from Roman forts on the edges of the empire to a Cold War bunker. Through these, they bring the story of England to life for over 10 million people each year. The stories attached to the historic places in their care span six millennia and include palaces, houses, hill figures, castles, abbeys, industrial sites, Roman forts and even deserted medieval villages. Creating inspirational visitor experiences that bring the story of England to life and caring for our sites and collections for the benefit of this and future generations is a cornerstone of everything they do. The generosity of their Members, donors and other supporters enables them to do this.
English Heritage are recruiting for two Trustees with significant experience of executive leadership of a large and complex organisation to replace Trustees who will soon step down as part of normal Trustee rotation. One of the new Trustees will have experience of leading -or working at a senior level in- a tourism or visitor attraction business and the other will have current or recent leadership experience within a top-flight digital organisation or organisation having undergone significant digital transformation, able to support the Board to think creatively making greater use of digital technologies to increase English Heritage’s impact. Successful candidates will be exceptional leaders, and strategic thinkers with an understanding of and enthusiasm for English Heritage’s work and commitment to English Heritage’s mission and values.
The Trustees will be one of a Board of, typically, 12 Trustees responsible for ensuring that English Heritage carries out its charitable purpose for the public benefit; delivers its charitable objectives; remains solvent and properly managed; and complies with all relevant legislation and governance best practice.
