Creative Land Trust

Chair

Job Reference PBOIA
Closing Date Wednesday 05 Jun 2024

Creative Land Trust is the charity making space for art. We were set up five years ago to tackle a growing problem in London – the rapid loss of affordable workspace for artists and makers – by setting up a sustainable financial model and providing a more cohesive link between the property and cultural sector. With launch support from the Mayor of London, Arts Council England, Bloomberg Philanthropies and Outset Contemporary Art Fund, the Trust began its work to acquire long term, affordable studio spaces for London’s artists and makers. We have now secured our first four buildings, with two fully operational as artist studios. We are also known for our research and policy work, highlighting the financial value of creative workspace, and exploring its wider impact on society.

Creative Land Trust are now seeking candidates for the role of Chair. The Chair’s primary purpose is to provide strategic leadership to the Board, enabling Trustees to fulfil their responsibilities for the governance of the Trust and supporting the Chief Executive in the successful leadership of the organisation. In particular, the Chair will work closely with the wider board and executive teams to set future strategy for the Trust, as the organisations looks beyond its start-up years, towards an ambitious and sustainable future. The Chair will be a key advocate for the Trust, including in a fundraising capacity.

Successful candidates will be strategic and commercial thinkers, ideally with some understanding of London real estate, a knowledge of the cultural sector and the challenges it faces, and experience of charity governance. They will bring senior leadership experience and a track record of experience on a high performing non-profit board. They will have excellent relationship building skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, from local councils to property developers, to artists. This is an opportunity to join a hugely innovative organisation, making a very real difference not only for London’s artists and makers, but also for the future of our capital City.

London will always have space for artists to create, collaborate and inspire others.
