City of London Sinfonia
CEO
City of London Sinfonia has been creating engaging musical experiences for over 50 years, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2021. Rooted in the belief that music and creativity are for anyone and everyone, CLS puts responsive, in-the-moment music-making and musician development at the forefront of all its activities, engaging audiences in shared, meaningful music experiences wherever they may be.
CLS has been the resident orchestra at Opera Holland Park since 2004, with an extensive touring schedule and regular performances at venues such as the Albany (Deptford), Canada Water Theatre, Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southwark Cathedral, and St Paul’s Cathedral. CLS leads the way in creative, collaborative practice through its participation programme, which is at the very core of the Orchestra’s work, complementing and supporting the musicians’ concert performances. This was recently recognised in 2020 by the Royal Philharmonic Society, when City of London Sinfonia was awarded the RPS Impact Award for its Sound Young Minds project, which provides opportunities for young people in psychiatric hospitals to work with each other and express themselves through music.
CLS now seeks to appoint a new CEO to lead the organisation into the next stage of its journey. The CEO will work closely with the Board and the executive team to help shape a vision for CLS’s future and ensure the smooth and effective running of the organisation. The CEO will be expected to continue to sharpen and define the CLS brand, with a continued emphasis on diverse audiences and inclusive experiences, and work to strengthen its position in the wider artistic landscape to ensure its long-term sustainability.
Candidates will be recognised or emerging leaders with a strong track record of leadership in a financially sustainable and artistically successful organisation. They will bring a commercial eye and ability to identify and seize opportunities, as well as having outstanding communication skills and the ability to act as a confident ambassador for CLS with a range of partners and stakeholders. An understanding of the performing arts, commitment to diversity and inclusion, and passion for participatory cultural and performance practice will also be key.
