Charterhouse is one of the great historic schools of England and its grounds and setting are among the most picturesque. It was founded in 1611 under the terms of the will of Thomas Sutton. His bequest provided for the establishment in London, on the site of an ancient Carthusian monastery, of a school for poor boys and an almshouse for 80 elderly gentlemen. Today, having relocated in 1872 to the stunning Surrey countryside, Charterhouse prides itself on offering much more than academic attainment. Art and music flourish and sport is exceptional, with a world class Sports Centre, extensive playing fields and outstanding provision for other activities.

In 2017 Charterhouse set out an ambitious development strategy to become the best co-educational boarding school in the country. This work is well advanced with the School going full co-educational in September 2021. The School now has over 940 pupils aged between 13 and 18, a large majority of whom board. Charterhouse is also well positioned to deliver impressive growth beyond the School itself, including internationally.

The new Director of Finance & Operations will be responsible for all financial and operational aspects of the School as well as supporting the Head with strategic matters and sustainability. This will include oversight of the School’s estates masterplan, and of its recent merger with prep school, Edgeborough. The successful candidate will bring an outstanding track record of leadership in an organisation of significant scale and complexity. They will be highly financially and IT literate and capable of explaining complex matters concisely and of working to the highest professional standards with colleagues, the executive and the Governing Body.
