Canterbury Christ Church University
Vice-Chancellor & Principal

Canterbury Christ Church University is a Church of England foundation university with a bold and distinctive vision. With over 30,000 students and a turnover exceeding £350 million, we are a significant and growing presence in UK higher education. Rooted in values of social justice, inclusion, compassion, and sustainability, we are a modern, mission-driven university making real-world impact through education, research, and civic partnership. With world-class facilities in Canterbury, Medway, and Tunbridge Wells, and sector-leading graduate employability, we are well-positioned to deliver our ambitious Vision 2030.
As Professor Rama Thirunamachandran steps down, we are now seeking to appoint our next Vice-Chancellor and Principal to lead the University through the next exciting chapter in our journey.
Reporting to the Governing Body, the Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive of the University, providing strategic leadership, academic inspiration, and executive oversight. This is a critical and high-profile appointment at a time of opportunity and challenge within the higher education sector. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and visionary leader, capable of inspiring excellence across education, research, enterprise, and public service. They will be a strong ambassador for the University, building national and global partnerships and advocating powerfully for our mission and values.
We are looking for someone with an exceptional track record of leadership in complex, mission-driven organisations – ideally in higher education – who can drive our ambitious agenda for transformation and inclusive growth. Candidates must bring a strong commitment to our Church foundation and be a practising Christian who will nurture and reflect our values. A genuine passion for equity, sustainability, and regional impact is essential.
