Brixton House is a creative hub in the heart of Brixton in south London. Formerly Ovalhouse, it has a long legacy of ground-breaking theatre and providing a home for artists and a new generation of makers, writers, producers, technicians, creatives and audiences, inspiring new experiences that develop community solidarity and passion for social change. Continuing its legacy of championing innovation and creative expression, Brixton House presents work that is rich in stories that resonate with its local, international, and intergenerational communities. A place for people to come together, to create and enjoy performances, the venue, newly opened in 2022, houses two studio theatres, performance spaces, several rehearsal rooms and multi-use meeting rooms, as well as public spaces, a café and a bar.

Having made an outstanding contribution in leading the Board and organisation through a period of considerable change in its transition from its previous existence as Ovalhouse, to a new identity and home, David Bryan CBE is now standing down as Chair of Brixton House. The Board seek a new Chair to join Brixton House at a hugely exciting time as the organisation is now at home in its new, purpose-built building. They will help lead Brixton House through this exciting period of change as it grows and develops. This is the opportunity to support and champion an organisation with the potential to make a significant difference to both its community and the national arts landscape.

The ideal candidate will have the willingness to be a strong advocate for Brixton House and to play a leading role in fundraising, strong commerciality, financial acumen and entrepreneurialism, a good track record of leadership, a deep understanding of governance, a demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and a passion for the arts and its power to transform lives and communities.
