Job Reference XBBB
Closing Date Wednesday 03 May 2023

Location: Flexible UK location

Salary: c£180-185k

Closing date: 5pm on Wednesday 3rd May 2023

For the last 150 years the British Red Cross have put kindness into action, helping millions of people in the UK and around the world get the support they need when crisis strikes. We are committed to helping people without discrimination.

While crises, both large scale and personal may seem to be all around us, the British Red Cross is on hand, bringing hope, kindness, and tireless effort – committed to ensuring everyone gets the help they need.

Whether in the face of conflict, disaster, displacement, or inequality, we bring compassion, dynamism, inclusive thinking, and courage. Our movement of staff, volunteers and supporters seek to exemplify how the power of humanity can be an immense force for good, despite our often-polarised world.

Meeting such scale of humanitarian need, makes us a large and complex organisation. We are always centred on people’s needs, carefully using our resources where they are needed the most, working in places where the risk is high and available resources are low. It is our belief that connected communities are resilient communities and we seek to strengthen these connections in our work.

We are now looking for our next Chief Executive Officer to build on our vital work, positive impact, and momentum. Partnering with the Board on the delivery of our mission through our Strategy 2030, the incoming Chief Executive will lead an experienced and passionate team into the next stage of our development and ambition to be even more impactful. We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and courageous leader that can help us realise our ambitions. This person will engage with integrity and drive with our many stakeholders, staff, volunteers, and supporters, inspiring and helping them to achieve even more, on behalf of those we serve.

The ideal candidate will have deeply seated humanitarian values and a track record of creative and collaborative senior leadership that has delivered measurable impact. This person will have experience of delivering strategy and change for significantly complex, scaled, organisations across the UK and internationally and of managing diverse stakeholders, as well as of inspiring and motivating teams. You will bring a demonstrable track record in creating high performing, safe and secure cultural environments and of advancing progress, in ensuring inclusive practices and promoting diversity. You will also be a strong operational leader, relationship builder and communicator, with high integrity, diplomatic skills, and credibility, alongside a deep commitment to our vision and mission.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to make positive and lasting change to thousands of lives in the UK and internationally. If you share our vision and values, and you have the exceptional leadership skills needed to help us carry out our mission, we would love to hear from you.

At the British Red Cross we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, to being representative of the people we are here to serve, and to being a place where all belong. We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in British Red Cross’s workforce.
