British Institute of Radiology
Chief Executive Officer

The British Institute of Radiology (BIR) is the oldest radiological society in the world, with a mission to improve medicine, health, and patient care through the science and practice of imaging and radiation oncology. The BIR is international and multidisciplinary; we support research, professional development, and collaboration for our diverse membership.
As the BIR looks to the future, we are seeking an inspirational CEO to provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the BIR remains a thriving and valued membership organisation. This is a multifaceted and exciting role in leading a well-respected membership society poised to consider our next steps beyond Strategy 2022-2027. Focusing on membership growth through a compelling education and events offer, utilising strong external partnerships whilst continuing to grow our journals portfolio, this is an exciting moment to join the BIR.
Accountable to the Council, and collaborating with the President, Dr Nick Screaton, the CEO will lead the BIR’s executive team, embedding a values-led culture of care, collaboration and learning. The successful candidate will bring executive-level leadership experience within a complex organisation with a diverse stakeholder base. The BIR is particularly interested in individuals with strong track records of delivering compelling education and events series and/or experience working in a membership organisation. They will have a track record of growth, strong financial and governance acumen, and the ability to influence and manage key relationships externally and internally. With exceptional communication and leadership skills, they will drive an inclusive culture that reflects the diversity of the field and the patients we serve.
The BIR is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, so actively encourages applications from a wide range of backgrounds. We are looking for a leader who is passionate about shaping the future of radiology, engaging and empowering members, and upholding the highest standards of excellence.
