Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival (BDBF)

Chief Executive

Job Reference EBORA
Closing Date Wednesday 26 Jun 2024

Salary: circa £120K per annum

Location: Brighton & Hove

Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival (BDBF) is an arts charity that manages a year-round programme of events across three historic venues – the Concert Hall, Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre; the annual Brighton Festival in May; and music education hub Create Music, which reaches 19,000 children across Brighton & Hove and East Sussex.

Located on the Royal Pavilion Estate, Brighton Dome’s venues have a rich history spanning over 200 years, providing an extraordinary space in which to create cultural experiences that inspire and bring our communities together. A major capital refurbishment project to restore and protect the Grade I and Grade II listed Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre has recently completed, cementing its reputation as a landmark centre for the arts and equipping it for a sustainable future.

As Andrew Comben moves on after a hugely successful 16-year tenure, it is an extremely exciting time to join the organisation as Chief Executive. With the recently completed capital project and newly opened venues forming part of an ambitious and inspiring cultural regeneration plan across the wider Royal Pavilion Estate, this is an exciting opportunity to lead the organisation into its next chapter.

The Chief Executive will oversee the creative direction and management of BDBF and Create Music, including developing the organisational vision, strategic plan, business plan, and procedures to deliver the priorities agreed with the Board of Trustees and aligned with the City Council’s corporate plan who lease our buildings to us.

Candidates will bring substantial experience of inspiring and collaborative leadership from a relevant context, a broad interest in the arts, a deep knowledge of the UK’s cultural sector, strong entrepreneurial and commercial skills, the ability to be an excellent advocate, the ability to develop a strong working partnership with key partners and a deep commitment and successful track record in enabling equality, diversity and inclusion.
