BFBS

Director of Finance

Job Reference FALARA
Closing Date Friday 27 Sep 2024

The British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) is an innovative media and broadcasting company. More than 80 years since its first broadcast from Algiers in 1943, BFBS continues to serve those who serve, wherever they are, and whenever they need us. Our services have evolved a lot since then, but our core role remains the same: to keep our armed forces, families and veterans in touch with home and with each other, and to forge and maintain a strong connection for those separated by deployment, posting and detachment.

BFBS protects and supports the UK Armed Forces at a time of enormous disruption in the media industry and with new threats from the UK’s enemies via mainstream and social media. Our trusted full-scale newsroom reports daily on the military world, on BFBS radio, BFBS TV, BFBS Forces News and our social media channels. Our services have an incredible impact on the wellbeing of tens of thousands of serving military and their families. This drives us to continually advance our technology. Since we need to travel to remote locations, we face problems that other broadcasters rarely come across. As a result, we are constantly ahead of the curve, and set the precedent for the broadcast industry around the globe.

Our new Director of Finance will lead the provision of an effective financial management service for our 250-person organisation, preparing financials in support of new business opportunities and investment proposals and in support of the Trustees at Board meetings. They will act as BFBS’s company secretary and as Director and Secretary of BFBS Media Limited (the trading subsidiary of BFBS) and support the Chief Executive on future contract management with the MoD and by being the principal day-to-day contact with the MoD in managing the contract.

We are looking for a capable and experienced finance leader who will thrive in an organisation with big reach, that exists at the cutting edge of broadcasting and operates in an ethos of high standards and service. A commercial mindset will be important as well as experience of technology. Experience of change will be essential. If that sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.
