Association of Accounting Technicians
Director of Regulation and Professional Standards

AAT is the Association of Accounting Technicians, the world’s leading professional body for accounting technicians. AAT develops finance qualifications that ensure businesses can draw upon skilled people, fully equipped to meet their challenges head-on. AAT believes that everyone should have the opportunity to unleash their career ambition – and they make it happen by breaking down barriers and empowering people with real-world expertise valued by organisations across all sectors.
AAT is now seeking a strategic and principled leader to take on the role of Director of Regulation and Professional Standards. As a vital part of AAT, this role will provide authoritative leadership of our regulatory function, ensuring that AAT’s standards, policies, and processes continue to uphold public trust and integrity across the profession. Reporting to the Chair of the Professional Regulation and Standards Compliance Board on regulatory matters, and to the Executive Director of Strategy and Compliance for administrative purposes, the postholder will lead the strategic development and oversight of AAT’s regulatory activities—including registration, supervision, enforcement, and anti-money laundering (AML) supervision.
This is a unique opportunity for a senior regulatory professional to shape AAT’s regulatory approach at a time of transformation and growing complexity. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the UK regulatory landscape for professional services, ideally with specialist knowledge of AML requirements. They will have proven experience in regulatory leadership—demonstrating sound judgement, excellent stakeholder engagement, and the ability to drive policy innovation while managing regulatory risk. They will also bring clarity, transparency, and fairness to the oversight of member conduct and assurance processes.
