Albyn School
Bursar-Director of Finance and Operations

Albyn School is one of Scotland’s leading independent, coeducational day schools. Albyn strives to create confident, self-motivated young people who enjoy learning, have a strong sense of service to others and who are ready to make a positive contribution to the adult world that they will soon join. Albyn School is an HMC coeducational day school, comprising of a nursery for around 120 children aged 2-5, a Lower School for around 290 pupils aged 5-12 and an Upper School of around 360 pupils aged 12-18.
This is an exciting time to join Albyn as the school looks to develop its next strategic vision, under the leadership of Stefan Horsman, who joined the school as Headmaster in April 2021. The school is in a strong position, with excellent academic results, a happy and close-knit school community, and financial and operational stability. There is an opportunity to develop exciting estates plans, including for sport, as well as to assist with the generation of non-fee income to support other major projects and bursaries.
The Bursar/Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) will be responsible for ensuring the successful and efficient day-to-day operation of the school’s support services, as well as providing overall business management and financial direction for Albyn, as a member of the school’s Senior Management Team. The Bursar/DFO also acts as Clerk to the Board of Governors and oversees the provision of agendas, papers and minutes as appropriate as well as serving on various Governor sub-committees.
The Bursar/DFO is a central figure in the life of the school and therefore must command the respect of, and demonstrate the highest levels of personal integrity towards, the entire community. They will be a resilient team player with an empathy for the values of Albyn School and an ability to mix hard work, attention to detail, and a sense of humour.
Albyn School is committed to creating and promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce that better reflects its pupils and local community.
