Coventry School Foundation

Principal, Bablake and King Henry VIII School

Job Reference GYYFA
Closing Date Monday 26 Jul 2021

Coventry School Foundation currently provides an outstanding education to roughly 2500 pupils ages 3-18, with history stretching back over 670 years. The Foundation is currently undergoing a restructure, bringing together King Henry VIII School and Bablake School to form one 3-18 coeducational school, Bablake & King Henry VIII School (BKHS). Coventry School Foundation now seeks to appoint an outstanding individual to lead Bablake & King Henry VIII School as its inaugural principal.

Both Bablake and King Henry VIII have a Christian foundation and carry this Christian ethos to this day. Both schools welcome pupils of diverse faiths and backgrounds, and celebrate cultural and social diversity as a major strength and distinctive characteristic of the schools.

BKHS, like Bablake and King Henry VIII, will be a caring partnership of young people, their parents, and staff. BKHS will aim to develop its pupils’ full potential in order that they may lead rich and responsible lives, both as individuals and as members of society. At BKHS, pupils will be provided with an excellent and stimulating education that develops their character, intellect, and well-being within a happy, scholarly, and caring environment. The Foundation’s schools have a long track record of strong academic outcomes and excellent teaching combined with a broad co-curricular offering, and BKHS will build on these successes.

The incoming Principal will play a key role in working with the Governors to build one cohesive school community, embedding the BKHS vision throughout the school through strategic development and clear, visible leadership. They will ensure the delivery of a broad and balanced education, fostering a culture of academic excellence and intellectual curiosity. The Principal will also work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure the smooth running of the school as a business, as well as leading and line managing the Executive Leadership Team.

The successful candidate will be an experienced senior leader with a track record of visible and inspiring leadership in an education setting. They will have thorough knowledge of the business aspects of school leadership and be a confident and effective motivator. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable ability to translate strategic vision into clear, coherent, and deliverable plans, and have strong analytical skills. Experience of successful change management is essential, as the Principal will need to bring pupils, parents, and staff with them to create a vibrant and cohesive BKHS community.
