Chief Executive
Chemistry is at the centre of everything you can see, smell, touch and taste.
Whether studying the chemistry of life, or developing the advanced science behind modern technology, chemical scientists use their expertise to improve our health, our environment and our daily lives. The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is an international not-for-profit organisation connecting chemical scientists with each other, with other scientists, and with society as a whole.
Founded in 1841, the RSC has an international membership of over 45,000 who are supported by over 600 staff working in 6 countries. With an annual income of over £65m, the RSC uses the surplus from its global publishing and knowledge business to give chemical scientists the support and resources required to make vital advances in chemical science. Alongside this work the RSC has strong links with the people teaching and practising chemistry in schools, colleges, universities and industry; these links and support combine to mean that RSC is the biggest non-governmental investor in chemistry education in the UK. The RSC is also a powerful advocate for chemical sciences at government level, influencing science, education and innovation policy in the UK and internationally.
The RSC is embarking on an exciting new stage as it sets out a strategy to grow its impact and influence on a sustainable footing. As a part of this, the organisation seeks an equally visionary and ambitious Chief Executive to lead it into this future. With a demonstrable interest in chemical sciences, the incoming Chief Executive will bring together the skills, expertise and energy of the RSC’s global community for the greatest influence and impact. The successful candidate will be an inspirational, collaborative and innovative leader. A strong external advocate with excellent communications skills, they will be passionate about leading a membership organisation with a strong social purpose and global convening power. With proven, successful leadership experience in a high-performing organisation, candidates will bring a strong sense of intellectual rigour combined with commercial nous and influencing skills. The next Chief Executive must continue to build on the strong global reputation of the RSC and, above all, lead by example, working hard and effectively for the greater good of society.
