The Nuffield Council on Bioethics is an independent body that examines and advises on ethical issues arising from developments in bioscience and health. It was established by the Trustees of the Nuffield Foundation in 1991, and since 1994 it has been funded jointly by the Foundation, Wellcome and the Medical Research Council. The Council has an international reputation for providing independent and balanced advice to policy-makers and stimulating debate in bioethics.
The Council are looking to appoint a Director to lead a team of 12 in supporting the work of the Council. Candidates must have a track record of successful strategic leadership and team management as well as strong operational skills. An understanding of current debates in bioethics and related issues in science policy and public perception of science is essential, as is an understanding of the interface between research and public policy and practitioners.
The role requires outstanding communications skills and the ability to manage complex stakeholders so candidates will need to bring a collaborative approach and experience of building partnerships. This represents the opportunity to lead an organisation which is tackling some of the most difficult issues in bioethics and has significant impact both nationally and internationally.
