Low Carbon Contracts Company and Electricity Settlements Company
Chair

The Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) and Electricity Settlements Company (ESC) play a vital role in delivering the UK’s transition to a secure and low-carbon electricity system. LCCC manages the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, driving investment in renewable energy, while ESC oversees the Capacity Market, ensuring reliable electricity supply. LCCC is growing rapidly due to the expansion of existing schemes and to resource new schemes that government has asked them to deliver. These schemes include new sectors, such as hydrogen, new nuclear and carbon capture and storage. These are private limited companies wholly owned by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero as sole Shareholder. They work at the intersection of government policy and private sector investment, supporting the UK’s ambitious net-zero goals.
The non-executive Chair of the LCCC and the ESC is a demanding and influential role. In a rapidly growing business with many commercial touchpoints, as well as key relationships with government and other delivery bodies, the Chair will need excellent communications and interpersonal skills, commercial credibility especially with private sector investors, and an ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders who partner with the businesses to deliver on the UK’s vision of a decarbonised economy.
This person will be a highly experienced leader with a proven track record of board-level leadership in a complex and commercially driven environment. They will bring experience of major infrastructure projects and capital-intensive industries, alongside the ability to operate effectively across both public and private sectors. Their leadership style will reflect the organisational values of integrity, accountability, and collaboration.
