English National Ballet (ENB) is a world-class and world-renowned ballet company, whose mission is to open up ballet. ENB is based in East London, but tours extensively. Alongside annual residencies at the Coliseum and Sadler’s Wells in London, the company performs largescale ballet to audiences across the UK and internationally. ENB is recognised as a leader in the evolution of the artform and in artist development. It was the first ballet company to set up an education unit, and engagement, creative health and learning and participation remain central to its mission and activity. The Board of English National Ballet appointed Aaron S. Watkin to succeed Tamara Rojo as Artistic Director in 2023, and the organisation is now embarking on an exciting and ambitious new chapter in its development.

It is in this context that ENB is now seeking exceptional candidates to lead ENB into the future, in the role of Executive Director. The Executive Director works in partnership with the Artistic Director and Chief Operating Officer to set the direction for the organisation, to inspire and lead the c. 220 staff and to support the executive team of departmental directors to manage the organisation and deliver its output. The post-holder will lead on the strategic framework for the organisation and manage relationships with a range of external stakeholders, including donors, Arts Council England and trade unions. They will play an active role in advocacy in the sector and manage key delivery teams including commissioning, producing and technical, Engagement, fundraising, marketing, press, communications and digital.

Potential candidates for the role will bring an understanding of and passion for the performing arts and have senior leadership experience gained in a relevant organisation. They will bring the ability to development and implement strategy, to create and convey ENB’s vision and provide leadership to the organisation. The role has a strong external focus, and candidates should bring experience of fundraising and stakeholder management.
