Rector

Job Reference CAVTC
Closing Date Wednesday 10 Jul 2024

The Board of Governors of The Glasgow Academy seeks to appoint an outstanding individual for the position of Rector.

The Glasgow Academy is a highly successful independent, co-educational day school located in the West of Scotland. Founded in 1845, it is the oldest, continuously fully independent school in Glasgow.
It educates pupils aged 3 to 18 across Nursery, Prep and Senior Schools. The Academy currently has around 1680 pupils, including 849 in the Prep School and 831 in the Senior School.

The Academy operates within a competitive marketplace containing leading state and independent schools. The school offers first-class teaching on well-resourced campuses which leads to excellence in SQA examination outcomes, pastoral care and impressive co-curricular programme.

Following impressive examination results, The Academy topped The Times’ league table for national academic rankings in 2023 for all Scottish exam qualifications and outstanding inspections in our Early Years settings. The new Rector will inherit a school that is successful, with an optimum school roll and highly regarded.

This is a tremendous opportunity for a current or aspiring Head to lead a very special school with a demonstrably unique and strong personality. The Governors are looking for a leader who combines personal warmth with a strategic mindset, to help The Academy to evolve culturally, educationally and technologically over the coming decade, whilst retaining its strong ethos.

The person must lead with a high degree of emotional intelligence to establish an authentic connection with pupils, parents, staff, Governors, former pupils and our wider community.

The new Rector will shape and drive The Academy’s future, with their primary challenge being to maintain its upward trajectory through the likely external economic, societal and political challenges of the coming years. They will be an articulate advocate for The Glasgow Academy defining it clearly amongst its competitors, in the local community and in the wider educational sphere.
