We’re Scouts and everyone’s welcome here. As the UK’s largest, youth movement, we give almost half a million people aged 4-24 the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.

We believe that through adventure, we challenge young people, so that they learn and experience new things and enrich their lives. From coding and camping to climbing and kayaking, our volunteer-led movement helps young people to develop skills, confidence and friendships they’ll take with them through their lives.  It’s our role to make sure that every one of our Scouts has the encouragement and support they need to take part in these activities safely. It all adds up to one big difference.

We’re now looking for our next Chief Executive, to take on a rewarding leadership role in one of the UK’s most recognisable and best loved, civil society movements. Working in concert with the Board of Trustees, the UK Chief Volunteer and Chief Executive work in partnership and have overall responsibility and accountability for all of the central functions of the movement. The responsibility and accountability for all activities of the staff of the Scout Association are delegated by the Board of Trustees to the Chief Executive.

As a federated association of over 7000 charities, 145,000 volunteers and more than 450,000 Scouts spread throughout the UK and in British Scouting Overseas, our Chief Executive needs to be a passionate advocate for our mission, an effective, inclusive and resilient leader of a complex and evolving movement, an inspirational and trusted leader for its staff and a compelling ambassador for our work.

The successful candidate will bring extensive executive leadership experience, most likely at CEO or similar level of seniority. You’ll bring a track record of developing and delivering strategy for a significantly complex, scaled, federated or multi-faceted organisation in the UK or internationally. Demonstrably committed to young people, you’ll have cultivated inclusive, values-led, high performing, accountable working cultures. You will have the high EQ and a collaborative approach to connect effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Scouts is proud to be an equal opportunities employer and we’re committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. We actively seek applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and can provide the support you need to thrive: we believe our differences make us stronger.
