Closing Date Thursday 06 Jun 2024

The Chineke! Foundation is an extraordinary organisation where diversity in classical music is championed, and change is celebrated. Founded in 2015 by the esteemed double bass player, Chi-chi Nwanoku CBE, the Foundation is dedicated to providing career opportunities for young Black and ethnically diverse classical musicians in the UK and Europe. This mission is brought to life through the impactful work of the majority-Black and ethnically diverse professional Chineke! Orchestra, the Chineke! Junior Orchestra, nurturing young diverse talent, and the engaging Learning & Participation programme spreading the joy of creative music-making in schools across the UK and beyond. With the recent launch of Chineke! Voices, spotlighting extraordinary composers like Vicente Lusitano, the Foundation’s impact continues to grow.

Over the past eight years, Chineke! has seen an extraordinary increase in activities and impact, performing around 40 concerts annually across the UK, including prestigious festivals and concert series. As a Resident Orchestra at Southbank Centre in London and with a close association with Woolwich Works, the organisation’s reach and influence continue to expand.

Chineke! Foundation now seeks Trustees to join the Board to help build upon the organisation’s outstanding achievements and world-class reputation. Under the leadership of Chair, Frank Douglas, Trustees play a vital role in governing the charity, ensuring compliance with charity law, and contributing to strategic direction and oversight. Trustees also support fundraising efforts and engage actively with key stakeholders relevant to the work of the Chineke! Foundation. Candidates with experience and skillsets in finance, arts leadership, legal, and the broader commercial world are particularly sought after. This is a unique opportunity to support the future of classical music, drive diversity and inclusion, and make a lasting impact on the cultural landscape.
