Rochester Bridge Trust

Director of Charitable Projects

Job Reference RBLRA
Closing Date Thursday 01 Feb 2024

For nearly two millennia, there has been a strategic crossing of the River Medway, on the route from London to the Kent coast, between the sites which are now known as Rochester and Strood. For 624 years, The Rochester Bridge Trust has been an integral part of the story of that crossing and more than six centuries on, the Trust continues its original role, now providing two substantial road bridges and a service bridge at no cost to the public. Our work is funded by a property portfolio that was originally established thanks to endowments from medieval benefactors.

Our core purpose is to ensure that the Bridges continue to function for the public benefit.  In addition to our core purpose, we support other charitable projects, provide award-winning civil engineering education services and we make grants for engineering education, research, restoration of historic buildings and projects related to the river and the ancient county of Kent.

We are excited that as part of the Trust’s strategic plan, a new role of Director of Charitable Projects has been created to increase the scope and level of the Trust’s grant giving programme. As part of the Senior Management Team and responsible for grants activities, education and archives, the Director of Charitable Projects will enhance and elevate grant distribution and manage delivery of grant-funded projects, including the establishment of online grant applications.

We are looking for an experienced grant maker, someone who will work with the SML and the Board to develop and deliver our Grants Plan. They will also oversee the successful delivery of our Archives and Exhibitions Plan and our Education Plan. If you are someone who can bring experience of the management and development of grant programmes, and a track record of senior management we would love to hear from you.
