Wessex Archaeology

Audit Chair & Trustee

Job Reference EBKGB
Closing Date Friday 17 Nov 2023 (Now Expired)

Wessex Archaeology is amongst the UK’s leading providers of archaeological and heritage services, and an educational charity, centred on the belief that investigating, understanding and sharing knowledge of the past is important and brings value to society, the economy, and the environment. It strives to develop and promote the understanding of archaeology and heritage across communities in a profitable, sustainable and equitable way. Over more than forty years, it has built up an impressive and diverse range of services to meet the needs of its commercial clients and to deliver its charitable purposes, deploying a range of unrivalled technical, interpretative, advisory and public engagement capabilities and recognised as a leader in innovation and high-quality service provision.

Amidst an exciting time of change at Wessex, with the process in train to appoint a new CEO, the Board is seeking to appoint two trustees – a Chair of Audit & Risk, and a Trustee with an archaeology focus.

The ideal candidate for the Chair of Audit & Risk will bring senior level financial leadership as well as a solid understanding of risk management, an understanding of some of the challenges the sector faces, and non-executive and committee chairing experience.

The ideal candidate for the Trustee role will bring up-to-date archaeology experience at a senior level, either from the public, commercial, charity or academic sectors, a deep understanding of the sector’s organisations, intelligence networks and key players, and experience of contributing to the shape and trajectory of front-line archaeological practice within the wider UK public policy and research contexts.

Candidates should also bring a commitment to the mission of Wessex Archaeology, as well as the ability to analyse and review complex issues and weigh up conflicting opinions, the ability to act as an ambassador and champion for Wessex Archaeology, a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, the highest standards of integrity and honesty, and a commitment to the Nolan Principles of Public Life.
