Who’s Moving in Healthcare – August-September 2023

Saxton Bampfylde tracks careers across the healthcare sector as part of our work supporting clients to attract and develop exceptional leaders. We would like to congratulate the following on their new positions, announced in August and September 2023.


August

  • Gary Fee, who was Chief Operating Officer at City and County Healthcare Group, has been promoted to Chief Executive.
  • Sarah Woolnough, who is currently Chief Executive of Asthma+ Lung UK, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the King’s Fund, starting in January 2024.
  • Peter White, who is already Chair of North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, has also been appointed to Chair Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Chris Gormley, who was Deputy Director of Greener NHS, will succeed the NHS’s first Chief Sustainability Officer, Nick Watts.
  • Darren Best, who is currently a Non-Executive Director at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, has been appointed as their new Chair.
  • James Sumner, who leads Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will also become interim Chief Executive of Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust at the end of the year when Kathryn Thomson steps down.
  • Professor Claire Fuller, who is Chief Executive of Surrey Heartlands ICS, has been appointed as the Primary Care Medical Lead of NHS England.
  • Professor Jane Hirst, who is a Professor at Imperial College London and an Honorary Consultant Obstetrician in Oxford, has been appointed as the Clinical Chair of the Global Women’s Health Programme at the George Institute for Global Health, UK, and the School of Public Health at Imperial College London.
  • Matt Murphy, who was Chief Executive Officer of Genba Digital and formerly held several senior roles at EMIS Group, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of Redmoor Health.
  • Sarah Seilly, who was the Lead Clinical Education Specialist at Olympus Medical, has joined Onyx Health as their new Head of Medical Education.
  • Rob Thomas, who was the Hospitals Director for Cardiff, Cheltenham, and Vale Nuffield Hospitals for Nuffield Health, has been promoted to their Health Systems Director for Wales and West.

September

  • Matthew Winn, who is Chief Executive of the Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust, has also been appointed interim Chief Executive of Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust, serving across both organisations for a 12-month period.
  • Ed Rose, who is currently Director of Delivery for the NHS Cancer Programme, has also been appointed as Director of Electives, Cancer and Diagnostics for NHS England.
  • Sam Haq, who is Director of Communications for the Department for Transport, has been appointed as the new Director of Public Accountability, Communications and Engagement for NHS England.
  • Stephen Hay, health advisor to PwC and former Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Director of Regulation at NHS Improvement, has been seconded to Greater Manchester ICS as a turnaround Director.
  • Mark Friend, who is a Non-Executive Director for North East London NHS Foundation Trust, has been appointed as the new Chair for James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Paul Roberts, who was formerly Chief Executive of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and retired earlier this year from his position as Chief Executive of Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust,  has been appointed as the interim Chief Executive of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
  • David Winter, who was Managing Director (Europe) for the New-Zealand based energy software company Flux Federation, has been appointed as the new Head of Innovation for Benenden Health, as well as Managing Director or its subsidiary, Benenden Wellbeing Limited.
