Scouts has prepared young people with skills for life for over 115 years. Each week, we help 450,000 young people aged 4-25 across the UK step up, speak up and dream big. We help them gain the skills to find their place in the world. Now more than ever, we’re on the side of young people, helping them play their part in a rapidly changing world. Scouts supports young people of all backgrounds and communities and brings people together, helping us to build a stronger and more positive society.

We’re now looking for a new Executive Director of Finance and Resources, a key member of our Executive Leadership Team. Reporting to our CEO, you’ll be responsible for our central finances and work across our federation. You’ll also help determine how resources can be used most purposefully and effectively to achieve our vision of helping more young people gain skills for life, working closely with our senior volunteer leadership team.

Adept at juggling a wide ranging portfolio, you’ll be the strategic lead for our finance function, legal and governance teams, including risk and compliance. You’ll also play a key leadership role in our strategic thinking and, in particular, connecting the finances to the wider context of Scouts’ role in helping young people gain the skills to make a positive impact on society.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of engaging leadership, strategic thinking, exercising clear judgement and delivery of strong financial controls. You’ll have led or be capable of leading a high performing function, covering financial management, legal affairs and governance. Most likely, you’ll have achieved this through leading a finance function in a large, complex organisation.

You’ll be a qualified accountant, bringing a breadth of finance expertise as well as commercial acumen and the ability to lead and motivate high-calibre teams. Whilst helpful if you have charity governance and legal experience, we’ll be interested in candidates from a range of sectors who have the capacity to adapt their skills to our environment. Importantly, we are looking for individuals who have an affinity with our values of Integrity, Respect, Care, Cooperation and Belief. Naturally, you’ll be team-oriented, and motivated by our goals to deliver better futures for young people.

Scouts UK is proud to be an equal opportunities employer and we’re committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. We actively seek applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and believe our differences make us stronger.
