With heritage in Britain’s pioneering aeronautical industry, the University of Hertfordshire has been an innovative force in education since the early 1950s. Today, we are a thriving community of more than 30,000 students and 3,000 staff, based across two vibrant and inclusive campuses. We offer 550 degree options and have a turnover of £340million. Our strong relationships with industry and award-winning careers services complement high-quality teaching to ensure Herts’ students gain the knowledge and skills they need to match their ambition and succeed. Our academics are experts in their fields, powered by curiosity and driven to deliver research that’s making a meaningful social and environmental impact in the UK and beyond our shores. In the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), we are ranked in the top 25% of all universities in the UK for research impact, and over three quarters of the University’s research was ranked as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.

We are now looking to appoint a new Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise to provide strategic and visionary leadership for the delivery of research and enterprise at Hertfordshire. As a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Group, the post-holder will create, develop, and deliver an ambitious research and enterprise strategy for the University, and work across the institution to foster a culture of entrepreneurship, innovation, and collaboration to drive excellence and growth across our research enterprise portfolio.

Strong candidates for this role will bring evidence of strategic leadership across research and enterprise alongside outstanding communication and relationship-building skills given the influential nature of the role. They will also need to demonstrate the ability to operate confidently at a cross-institutional level, combining vision and strategic thinking with pragmatism and drive to deliver results. Candidates will be recognised within their field of research, and bring a personal track record in research that lends them the necessary credibility across the University.
